Dear Parents,
This letter is to inform you about the upcoming STAAR test. This is a Writing STAAR test for 4th and 7th grade on April 20th on campus. Test will start SHARP at 8:00. We want to share some information and best practices students can benefit from before, during, and after the test. Students must have their School Chromebooks on the day of testing and should be fully charged. There will be no live sessions on Tuesday, April 20th, all classes will be asynchronous for non-testing grades. Only 4th and 7th-grade students will participate on Campus for State Testing.
The Night Before the Testing:
- Visualization: Have a conversation with your child about what the day will look like.
- Get a good night's sleep. Kids need a full 8 hours of sleep.
- Self-Talk: give your child a few phrases that can motivate him/her "I just need to do my best!" "I can do it." "Stay cool."
- Answer any fears or questions, your child might have.
- Prepare your child’s snacks, pencils, clothes, etc. the night before.
- Remind your student to remain focused and no talking/playing during the test
On STAAR Testing Day Arrival Location:
- Drop off place is in the back area through the gym doors.
- The school entrance is from Clodine road and the exit is thru Boss Gaston road. Please form two lines when you get into our school property from Clodine road. You will follow the lines around to the back covered area for drop-off. There will be cones directing you to merge into one lane for student drop-off.
- Drop-off time can be as early as 7:30 AM.
- Pick up place will also be the same
- Pick up time after testing is 12:30 PM.
- 4th and 7th grade students will come to take the test onsite and will be dismissed at 12:30 when testing is complete.
- Breakfast It will be served in the classroom at 7:30. Assistant teachers will be picking it up and delivering it to the students.
- Lunch: It will be served to students in the classroom at 12:00 if all students in the room have completed their test. If students continue to test pass 12:00, lunch will be given to them to take home.
- TA: Will be in the classroom with teachers to assist them.
Safety Protocols:
- All SST employees and students will be asked if they are experiencing any symptoms. Those who respond 'yes' will be isolated, sent home, and referred to medical care if needed. Those who respond 'no' will then move forward to temperature screening.
- Those who are not experiencing symptoms and meet temperature screening standards (under 100 degrees) will be allowed entry.
- PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT POLICIES
- All students, employees, visitors, and vendors are required to wear masks/face shields that cover both their nose and mouth at all times.
- Masks/face shields will be provided to students, employees, and visitors if they do not have one. Acceptable masks include both district-issued and personal masks, disposable masks, homemade masks, handkerchiefs, and scarves. Please note that bandanas and masks with inappropriate graphics are not allowed.
Good practice on the day of the testing:
- Eat a good, healthy breakfast.
- Do relaxing activities like:
- taking deep breaths,
- tensing muscles and then relaxing them,
- talking about something unrelated to STAAR.
- Please leave cell phones, backpacks, hand-held games, and electronic watches at home.
- Wear layers so your child is comfortable at any temperature.
- Remain calm and positive.

What to Bring?
- Pencil
- Water bottle
- Lunch (lunch will be provided, but students can bring their own lunch as well-Lunch cannot be delivered during testing time)
- School Chromebook (if student has school Chromebook and make sure it is fully charged)
- Headphone
PLEASE NOTE THAT NO VISITORS WILL BE ALLOWED TO
THE CAMPUS DURING TESTING.
